Building Good Relationships in Clinical Supervision

Sophia Sills-Tailor, Ph.D., LPC, LPCMH, NCC and Rachel McCrickard, LMFT and CEO of Motivo participate in this panel discussion that focuses on helping both supervisors and supervisees develop good relationships in their clinical supervision by focusing on some of the key dynamics unique to virtual supervision.

You’ll learn to:

  • Identify and implement effective communication strategies in clinical supervision so that you build trust and rapport with each other. .

  • Provide and receive constructive feedback in clinical supervision while maintaining a positive and collaborative relationship.

  • Create a safe and supportive environment as you manage power imbalances and potential conflicts, as well as maintain culture awareness within the relationship.

The clinical supervision relationship is foundational for the growth and development of therapists and virtual supervision has opened up opportunities for that support to take place over distances.

Just like with in-person supervision, it’s important to establish boundaries and rapport as you guide and encourage. But in the virtual setting, there are added nuances to establishing and maintaining that relationship. This course discusses those elements so that you can implement strategies that will create a safe, valuable experience.
