Supervision Training Series: Administrative vs. Restorative Clinical Supervision

This course will provide helpful tips and dialogue about providing quality clinical supervision to providers in community-based settings. We will explore the differences between administrative and clinical supervision, with emphasis on ways supervisors and their supervisees can maximize supervision to meet the growing needs of clients within underserved communities.

You will learn to:

  • Identify the differences between administrative and restorative clinical supervision.

  • Name best practices for supervisors to meet the various needs of pre-licensed mental health providers to combat burnout.

  • Name best practices for supervisees to address their own needs during the licensure process.

  • Discuss strategies and tactics supervisors and their supervisees can employ in supervision to build a strong relationship, address administrative tasks, focus on self-of-the-therapist/counselor, address professional/licensure goals, and make ethical considerations.

First, we answer the “why” of becoming a clinical supervisor. We look at what supervision brings to our practice and how quality supervision is so impactful for pre-licensed and licensed clinicians.

Next, we look at restorative versus administrative supervision. Or as Dr. Dickerson likes to call it: cool aunt versus mother. The cool aunt follows the supervisee on Instagram and TikTok to see what they are posting and what they need to take down before the mother sees.

And finally, we examine case examples and how we handle specific situations. From helping the supervisee find their own voice to creating an environment of safety during supervision, this course is packed with knowledge and nuggets.
