Joshua Stanley, EdD, NCC

Dr. Joshua Stanley serves as dean for the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences at Capella University. Prior to this role, he served as dean for the School of Counseling and Human Services, interim assistant dean for the counselor education and family therapy programs, and chair of the school counseling and addiction studies programs. He also served as core faculty in the counselor education program specializing in school counseling. Before coming to Capella, Dr. Stanley held several positions in P-12 education, including serving as an elementary and secondary school counselor, school counseling program specialist, and coordinator of special education for a state department of education. Dr. Stanley previously held positions as president of the Tennessee School Counselor Association and member of the Florida School Counselor Association governing board. Dr. Stanley holds a doctorate in counselor education and supervision, master’s degree in counseling, and bachelor’s degree in psychology. He is a licensed school counselor and holds the national certified counselor and approved clinical supervisor credentials. Dr. Stanley maintains a limited private practice in Orlando, Florida, where he works primarily with members of the LGBTQIA+ community.
